Action Item: Call Congress to scrap "John Doe" provisions

Thu Jul 19, 2007 at 09:33:19 AM PDT

Congress passed a bill a while ago that contained immunity for citizens who report "suspicous activity" on flights, and for airline and airport employees who act on this information. This is a reaction to a lawsuit filed by a group of Muslim imams against U.S. Airways and unknown or "John Doe" passengers after they were removed for suspicious behavior aboard Flight 300 from Minneapolis to Phoenix on Nov. 20 before their removal.

Immigration mess: USA's loss, Canada's gain

This is old news, but I don't see it diaried here yet. Microsoft will open a Software Engineering Office in Vancouver, Canada. What's the big deal about it? After all, Microsoft has many many engineering campuses across the world.

The big deal is this:

Increasing turnout among Indian-Americans

Sat Nov 19, 2005 at 04:06:46 PM PDT

I am an Indian-American. To be precise, I'm an aspiring Indian-American; my Green Card is in the process. I believe in participating in the political process, but unfortunately I can't do much until I get a Green Card (at which point I can donate to campaigns) or citizenship (at which point I will be able to vote). It literally hurts therefore, when I find people who have those rights not using them.

Now moving on ...

OK, so we have a deal that lets Owen, Pryor and Brown get floor votes. Now what? Do all three have the votes? Could one or more of them lose on the floor?

I was talking to a friend here in Seattle who clerks on a local court. An interesting POV from him was that he really didn't care much about Owen - whether she gets through or not; since the 5th circuit is already screwed up. So who cares if there's another crazy on it? However, Brown is going to the DC circuit, where she'll be ruling on all the regulatory programs that she doesn't believe in!

It seems that if we're going to make an effort to defeat one or more of these judges in a floor vote, Brown is Pri 1.

Please protest Power99 DJ

Tue Jan 11, 2005 at 06:03:10 PM PDT

Recently a DJ on Philadelphia's Power99 (WUSL-FM)station played on the air an offensive call he made to an Indian Call Centre employee.

This is a link to a clip: http://www.pressedwool.com/Power99_Call_to_India.mp3.

We all have opinions on outsourcing, I know I do. But this clip contains the worst examples of stereotyping, namecalling and racial abuse that I've ever heard. This DJ needs to be punished!

Some choice quotes from the call below the fold ...
